Network Automation: Paving the Way For Configuration Agility

Gartner Report: “Market Guide for Network Automation”
Analyst(s): Vivek Bhalla and Sanjit Ganguli

Enterprises are migrating from traditional network infrastructures to a hybrid model to achieve agility. Network automation is a way to enable configuration agility. AppViewX, an automation and orchestration platform, provides end-to-end provisioning and self-servicing capabilities across layer 2 to layer 7 network components.

In a recent Gartner report, Market Guide for Network Automation, Payoda (now AppViewX) was identified as a vendor with network automation capabilities.

The report states, “Although a discipline unto itself, network automation must increasingly be considered part of the wider automation and holistic configuration and change management processes for an end-to-end IT service, as well as be viewed as an enabler for the adoption of cloud services and technology.”

The Application Provisioning System (APS) module of AppViewX provides high-level automation using a customized, template-based approach to provisioning applications. For any change, users can submit a request using a simple form. The Python script at the back end will generate the implementation, rollback, and post-validation configurations. The Python code brings programmability into the template, ensuring maximum customization.

The whole process is tied to a ticketing system and a workflow engine. APS aims to reduce errors by providing complete automation with manual checks at critical junctures. As a vendor-agnostic platform, AppViewX is integrated with all major network vendors, ITSM systems, and IPAM systems to provide end-to-end change management automation to realize agile IT faster. It bridges the gap between cloud and on-premises, and provides a single pane of view for the user. With granular role-based access control (RBAC), it provides seamless collaboration among cross-functional network teams.

Case studies reveal that AppViewX has ensured that more than 80 percent of all configuration changes can be automated, reducing implementation time by 70 percent and improving operational efficiency.

Check out how AppViewX can help meet your 2016 network automation goals for IT agility.
