According to Gartner analysts Joe Skorupa and Andrew Lerner, “In the early 2000s, server-based load balancers evolved into complex, multifunction custom appliances. Application-centric personnel are driving a return to lightweight, disaggregated load balancers, creating challenges and opportunities for I&O leaders.”*
The Gartner report, How I&O Teams Can Survive the Return of the Zombie Load Balancers, further states, “Through the end of 2016, 98% of Mode 2 applications will continue to be deployed with nontraditional ADCs or without any ADC. By the end of 2017, three of the top six ADC vendors will offer support for heterogeneous ADC instances including open-source, up from none today.”
The report explains key findings and recommendations to address the challenges of I&O teams, including the section titled “Target ADC Investments Toward Vendors and Tooling That Support Management of Heterogeneous Instances.” In the report, Gartner notes that, “…managing a multivendor environment of ADCs can be extremely complex. This gets even more problematic when large numbers of instances are required and on a more transient basis.”
AppViewX is cited in the report and is a multivendor ADC management solution that offers state-of- the-art management capabilities that map to the needs of application owners, network engineers, and network operations. ADC+ simplifies migrations/upgrades, and enables self-service capabilities to lines of business.
